Japanese Indigo Seed
Persicaria tinctoria
Japanese Indigo is a knot weed of the buckwheat family, it is easy to grow without becoming invasive.
It is a frost tender annual, that is also a prolific re-seeder.
Choose a spot that receives at least 6 hours of sun and it will return again and again.
The leaves are harvested to create a blue indigo dye and can be harvested multiple times during the growing season.
Cut the plants back by 2/3s first harvest in May and allow for regrowth before harvesting again.
The stems of your harvest may also be rooted in water and planted out to increase your harvest yield.
Our seed is fresh, from our 2020 harvest.
