Cosmos Seed
100+ mixed color
Our easy to grow Cosmos tolerate poor soil, heat and drought. Rich, fertile soils tend to produce unusually tall, lanky plants with few blooms and can become top heavy and fall over. DO NOT FERTILIZE! They are a simple, delicate, daisy-like annual that are liberal self-sowers. We like to collect our seed in fall to ensure regrowth, as seedlings are not winter hardy. When seed is planted in early spring, it's common to have an abundance of dried seed pods by mid-summer. You can encourage re-bloom simply by cutting the plants back to 12-18" high, allowing the seed to drop onto the soil for re-bloom. Simply step in and keep watered until germination!
Our delightful mix blooms on long stems with ferny leaves in a brilliant display of color from summer through to the first frosts of fall.
Cosmos don't mind crowding and are a beautiful field flower but are also one of our favorite cut flowers with a vase life of 5-7 days. Harvest blooms in early morning and select stems with flowers that have just opened. Remove leaves below your water line and change water every 2-3 days.
