It is an erect, multi branched plant, 12-24 inches tall with hairy stems and simple, opposite, green leaves that are strongly scented. Leaves have petioles, are ovate up to 2 inches long and slightly toothed. The flowers are purplish in close whorls.
Sow directly in the garden in later spring, in rich soil, in a full sun location. Keep it well watered. Sow seeds every 6in and thin to 1-2 feet apart. Germinates in 1-3 weeks.
