1st 24 hour rain

1st 24 hour rain
waterfall about 30 yards upstream from the 2 lower forest area dams

It's rained for most of 24 hours yesterday. today was nice with a couple hours of additional rain.  Last year this would mean that the "island" would have been completely underwater.  Not this year :~)  the 7 speed bump dams placed in the run off creek and the widening of the creek channels around the island have proven to be a success.  Out of our 7 dams, ONE of them had a cinder block that moved "a little".   I would estimate we are holding back 3,000 or more gallons of water in all our catchments combined. A couple days ago the creek was down to just a trickle.  Below are pictures of 4 of the dams. I took photos of all of them but some ended up being a video instead of a picture, sorry.

this is the upper most dam. it is just below the really fkd up road. It's the one that has had the most effort put into it and the largest. a couple days ago is was just a trickle. today it is approximately 4ft deep and 20ft long... probably holds a thousand gallons of water.
the upper forest area has 3 dams this is the 3rd in that series.
looking down stream at 2 dams in the lower forest area.
looking upstream at the same 2 dams.
the upper 1 dam of the same 2 dams
The Island Garden is happily not flooded.  All our water catchment containers are full.  Thats about 500 gallons contained in plastic for the days we get hit with a drought.  We have a couple of "watering holes" built into the creek system around the garden and I don't think that will dry up anytime soon.  So, we've probably done all our water catching for this year... yesterday.  LOL
