They even ate the tops off the Cayenne Peppers and I found a few half eaten peppers on the plant too.
We went away for 3 nights. When I returned I found that the deer had been rioting and looting our garden area. No longer satisfied with our gift of the numerous extra apples that we do not have time to process; the deer decided they needed more. No longer will I sit by and enjoy watching the fkrs frolic in the backyard while enjoying our extra apples. They are no longer welcome to hang out with us, since they could not be satisfied with all the apples they could eat. They have stolen our food and endangered the life of our Nectarine tree. They have earned themselves the honor of making a living sacrifice to the humans who control this land. I was rather ambivalent about deer season. Knowing that several family have hunted here for decades and that some of our deer won't be with us next season while watching the cute lil'buggers frolic in the yard made me soft. But now I understand why there is deer season, beyond the need for meat for winter reason... the deer need thinning or we won't have anything left to eat.
The chestnuts have begun to fall out of their thorny placenta; the deer left us 4 chestnuts out of dozens of downed spiky softballs and 25 piles of deer shit for the next round of chestnuts to fall into. They brazenly picked out their favorite garden crops by walking all over everything they didn't want to eat inorder to get to the stuff they liked. They ate the Sunflowers, the Strawberries, the Potato tops, the Nasturtium and the Tomato & Pepper tops. The most disturbing disregard for our sustainability came at the cost of our Nectarine tree that was almost completely deleafed, it had been the healthiest plant in the garden. These crazy looters even ate the Cayenne Pepper plant, including a few peppers.
Now when I call them looters I must clarify. Most "looters" you will find reference to in the media are either super hungry from surviving a disaster or are those striking a blow against capitalism/oppression or injustice. I don't really have a problem with those "looters". These deer were welcomed into our yard to eat from our excess even though they have several hundred acres of lush forestation to eat from. As soon as we turned our back, they insulted our kindness by stealing anything they could get their hoofs on. It's going to cost them.
I never thought I say this but... You Loot, We Shoot. LOL
Don't believe me? Just ask those Groundhogs that ate the broccoli and cauliflower.

25 piles of deer shit - 4 chestnuts on the ground.

hoof prints in the garden bed

The deer have been munching on the Italian Sunflowers periodically all summer. Since they aren't food and there are a lot of them it didn't really matter.

What's left of the strawberries

The Nectarine Tree was bushy, full of green healthy leaves, you could hardly see a branch of the tree for all the leaves. This is the most heinous of their crimes.

The potato trashcan got munched on a little bit.

Banana Peppers have the tops eaten off by the deer.
Deer ate the tops off the Mortgage Lifter Tomatoes and most of the pepper plants.

oh dear. oh dear. oh dear.
perhaps it was a drunken party?
it's true, they plundered and pillaged, but most of that garden was already winding down? perhaps a dog? a dog to chase them and fill them with fear!!!!
