some of our 'lil ones
things are moving a long nicely. it's still getting a little chilly some evenings so "most" of the little plants are still not in the ground. we're hoping to sell our extra seed starts and some propagated peach & pear trees at the first Farmers Market and should have lettuce for our restaurants in a couple weeks. the greenhouse is beginning structural upgrades to firm up the frame and deflect the wind better. planting in it has begun but progress is intentionally slow. we need to learn how to regulate wind an heat before we fill it with plants. we also need to sift a Lot of dirt into buckets and set up a logical system of watering. we've got a solar powered self watering device and a soaker hose, both will probably be used when we get it in full swing. for heat we have an industrial size fan but the inverter for the solar array died and we're waiting on it's replacement. special thanks to all the volunteers that rolled through and pitched in knowledge, tools and labor this spring. our future is much brighter for your efforts.
easter... LOL

making space

it's a Teepee a Tent and a pile of shitty pallets... it's also home for 15 Currant Tomato plants. they are tiny little tomatoes that do well in the wild and... Cross With All Other Tomato varieties... so they have their own spot far away from the other tomatoes
learning curve update: adding more snap clamps to make the greenhouse more air tight... means the air that gets in has no place to escape... so it blew out the south wall entirely. newly added clamps were removed and there have no issues with that since.

tomatillo's in the foreground. we also have many Tom Thumb lettuces, sweet basil, 1 cucumber, 2 scallop squash, 2 crook neck squash, 2 white zucchini, a green sausage tomato, pineapple tree and several little bumblebee tomato starts. the sweet red italian peppers we really want to grow in the greenhouse have not yet sprouted... ;~(

5 kinds of lettuce
the salad bar - cucumber, spinach, 4 kinds of lettuce, broccoli, nasturtium, cilantro, green bunching onion... (coming soon purple bumble bee cherry tomato, greek basil)

Looks like spring has finally arrived. Good luck with everything.
it's a big weekend of shoving plants in the ground and putting up extra bracing and wind protection on the greenhouse. our frost fears have turned to wind & heat fears.. I was recently reminded that "life is a bowl full of cherries that seem to taste a lot better after you take the Pits out." so, we're taking out the pits. ;~)
